Water sports in Costa Rica

Water sports in Costa Rica: Unlimited thrills for you by Costa Rica Dave

If you get an adrenaline rush from participating in water sports, head over to Costa Rica, one of the world’s best destinations for this. Its superb climate, virgin beaches, tropical rainforests and whacky night life all add to the charm of this paradise on earth.

The best thing about enjoying water sports here is that you can come to this country at any part of the year and you can enjoy all the water sports they have to offer. The large gushing lakes and rivers and the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean make it the best place to enjoy water sports.

Here are some of them that you’re sure to enjoy:

Whitewater rafting: Central America’s best rapids are in Costa Rica which are suited to novice rafters and experienced ones too. The best rivers for rafting are Río Reventazón and Río Pacuare. It’s best to raft in all parts of the year except June to October.

Fishing: Serious fishers consider this an amazing place for fishing. They bring their personally owned equipment and fish here for hours. The winter is the best time to come fishing here and you can also take a fishing tour, if you like.

Waterfall rappelling: Something that water sports enthusiasts love indulging in, waterfall rappelling gives you a real close look at the waterfalls here. Also called canyoning, waterfall rappelling excursions can be taken between Manuel Antonio and Arenal, though the best spot is Los Chorros Waterfall, a superb cascading waterfall all of 180 feet. This highly visited tourist spot is very close to San Jose.

Sea kayaking: Here’s something not as stomach curdling as other water sports. Sea kayaking can be done on the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean side at sunset. You can also go kayaking on the bays along the Pacific Ocean. You can rent a kayak from most of Costa Rican beaches for an hour or for a maximum of one day.

Scuba diving: Scuba diving is popular here because divers love the warm waters here. Additionally, there are unimaginably beautiful coral reefs on the side of the Caribbean Sea that you can see at Playa Manuel Antonio (Pacific), Gandoca-Manzanilla (Caribbean), Isla del Caño (Pacific), Cahuita (Caribbean) and Parque Nacional Ballena Marina (Pacific). Here, you can also see several species of crustaceans and dolphins.

Along the Pacific Ocean coast, you can dive at these locations: Playas del Coco, Bahia Drake, Playa Ocotal and Playa Hermosa.

Surfing: You can find just the waves you want on the Caribbean and Pacific coasts. Manuel Antonio, one of the most superlative Costa Rican beaches, is home to surfers and also has surf camps where beginners can learn the sport. Here, surfing also takes the forms of standup paddle surfing and windsurfing, which you can enjoy at Lake Arenal at the foothills of Arenal Volcano. This is the country’s top destination for windsurfing, so die-hard windsurfers will never leave this country without spending some valuable time here.

If these sports grab you, come to Costa Rica and enjoy what thrills you most–water sports.
